A product of legal education in Africa, Europe and the United States, Professor Olowu started his professional academic career as a Junior Trainee Fellow (Assistant Lecturer) at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ife, Nigeria, in October 1997, and assumed the position of a full Professor of Law (Public Law & Legal Philosophy) at the Walter Sisulu University, Mthatha, South Africa, effective 1 January 2009. Prior to coming to the AUN, he was Professor of Law and Director of the School of Postgraduate Studies & Research at the North-West University, Mafikeng, South Africa between 2010 and 2015. He also served as a Ministerial Adviser to the South African Law Reform Commission (Project 25: Minerals & Energy Affairs).
Prof Olowu has authored numerous learned publications through reputable legal and interdisciplinary outlets across continents. The National Research Foundation (South Africa) currently rates Prof Olowu as an ‘Established Researcher’ for his work (2009-2014; 2015-2020).
In recognition of his research acumen, Prof Olowu served on the Academy of Science South Africa (ASSAf)’s Peer Review Panel for Scholarly Journals in the Law and Related Fields (2009-2014). Prof Olowu assumed office as the pioneer Dean of the AUN School of Law on 1 November 2015.
