The president of the American University of Nigeria (AUN), Dr. Dawn Dekle is pleased to announce a new addition to the AUN Governing Council Dr. Baraka Sani.
Dr. Sani hails from Nassarawa Local Government Area of Kano state. The Western Pacific University of Denver Colorado, USA awarded her an honorary doctorate in Public Administration. She also has a certificate in leadership of the 21st century from Harvard University. She is an alumna of United States leadership course IVLP; under the state department of the USA. She also serves as vice-president of the association in Nigeria. She obtained a master's degree in Public Policy and Administration from Bayero University Kano (BUK). Where she also received a bachelor's degree in Political Science. As the best graduating student of the Department of Political Science in 1992, she received the Baba Danbappa Prize.
Dr. Baraka Sani was the first female commissioner of agriculture and natural resources in Kano State from 2011-2014. During her time as commissioner, she initiated the first farmers' radio in Nigeria. She is also the brain behind the first mobile zoo in Nigeria. She coordinated the training of over 24,000 women and youths in various agricultural enterprises in Kano state including training collaboratives for youths from the 19 northern states. Dr. Sani served as the Senior Special Assistant to the president on agriculture from 2014-2015. In that role, she implemented the first school agriculture as a business program for youths all over the country.
Dr. Sani founded and serves as CEO of the Worldwide Initiative for Community Development and Global Healthcare (WIFCOH), an NGO she set up in 2014, in support of the SDG goal against hunger; working to reduce malnutrition in children under 5, and aiding the SDG goal on, quality primary education, and women empowerment. Dr. Baraka Sani is currently a director in Petrogas Energy Trading West Africa, CEO MC Banas fast food and serves as chair, Prestige Villa Ltd in Kano State.
She has received numerous awards, including the best commissioner for agriculture in Nigeria by the Times-News Magazine, a grand patron award from farmers associations in Kano, Patron of (NACOLGDA) National Council of Local Government Department of Agriculture, the ambassador of peace award, and various awards from student bodies, organizations, and many more. A proud mother of two, she is widely traveled and her hobbies include social service, fashion design, hospitality, and watching horse racing/show Jumping. Dr. Baraka Sani is a seasoned politician, a philanthropist, and an astute business personality.
