A final-year CMD student, Ms. Farida Haruna, has helped to fix a borehole for Government Day Primary and Secondary School, Bekaji.
The facility had broken down for more than a year.
Ms. Haruna was motivated to repair the borehole owing to her desire to give back to the host community.
“We have tried to fix it for the past few years now but the money has not been coming,” said a teacher in the school who confirmed that it was not the first time AUN students were embarking on a community service project in the school. “Two years back, a student from your school awarded scholarships to two of our students.”
The teacher was very pleased as students in the school are safe and not exposed to danger of going out of the premises. “We now have running water inside our school.”
She remarked that AUN has uplifted Adamawa State.
Basic Science teacher, Ibrahim Yakubu Abdulsalam, who helped with the restoration, said the project is very beneficial to the school and the community, as it would reduce the incidence of mishaps from cases of children crossing the road in search of drinking water.
