Who doesn’t love the beach? On March 24, students were treated to a fun day at Bakin Kogi in the Jimeta area.
The Campus Activities Board in collaboration with the Office of Student Activities and Involvement organized the event intended for students of AUN to get wet (pun intended) and have fun on the beach all day. The event took place on the shores of the Benue, a 30-minute drive from AUN. It was attended largely by students eagerly yearning for a different sort of entertainment on offer at campus. Pickup began by 9 am with buses awaiting beachgoers eager to get their weekend started the right way. From school, students were transported to the shores of the river, where they all enjoyed a boat ride to the venue of the event. There were fun activities for everyone to enjoy at the beach: volleyball, boat rides around the island, football, and many more. Vendors were at hand selling food and snacks to interested students. I personally loved the event, but I wanted to know what other students thought about it, so I spoke with a few.
Gabriel Eremie, a Software Engineering major, said he loved his time on the beach and hoped more school activities would be as exciting as this.
Tekena Williams, a Communications and Multimedia Design major, said the event was different from what we have been experiencing at the university and he really enjoyed himself.
Winifred Godfrey, Chair of the Spirit Committee of the Campus Activities Board, stated that she was happy with the turnout and that people had a good time. She also said they were motivated to have the event at the beach because they wanted to be different and to stand out as a committee creating a fun event for students out of campus. “We are really delighted that our event was a success and we hope we can do something just as exciting next time.”
