One-on-One Tutoring
Writing can be a hassle sometimes. What better way to do it than with someone who understands it and gives engaging feedback?
This is where our tutors come in. Tutors are not teachers or examiners. They don’t rewrite work or promise great grades. They read submissions and ensure that others can read it, by guiding authors through eliminating unnecessary information or adding relevant data.
The Writing Center scouts and hires friendly talented students who are passionate about sharing their love of reading and writing with the community of learners. Academic essays, letters, emails, proposals, and research papers are only a few compositions (written work) the tutors at the Writing Center help students with.
Students are welcome to book an appointment or visit the Writing Center when they can. After signing in, which takes just seconds to complete, students explain to the tutor what kind of assignment they would like to have reviewed. A tutoring session lasts about 20- 30 minutes, depending on the nature and length of the written work.
If a tutor is unavailable, or if a student wishes to show up at a different time, they reschedule the appointment.
Drop-ins are also allowed. This is where a student can “drop” their work with any tutor of their choice and come back another day for a constructive response.
If you’re visiting the Writing Center, remember to be very involved. It’s your work, and you have every say in it. Remember to ask questions if you don’t understand what the tutor is saying; and to discuss any new ideas during the session. Remember, writing is fun. Don’t forget to print your essay before coming, and where applicable, to notify the tutor about any specifications or requirements. If your instructor, for example, wants your paper to be single-spaced and written in font size 200, do tell us!
