On Friday, October 21, AUN joined the rest of the global intellectual community to commemorate the International Day of Action Against Contract Cheating. IDOA 2022 had the theme: Addressing Contract Cheating and Beyond in the New Learning Environment. The AUN Writing Center organized a series of activities to raise awareness about practices that promote greater academic integrity.

One of the activities was a Treasure Hunt game tagged ‘Academic Integrity Treasure Hunt’. The Treasure Hunt featured three student teams – Green-Trojans, Blue-De Mentors, and Red-Win-or-Buzz – contesting for the top prize.

The teams were expected to hunt and discover the treasure box quickly within 30 minutes. The tricky clues leading to the treasure box were scattered all over the entire campus and could also mislead the hunters if not properly thought through. The treasure hunters were expected to locate pieces of clues that lead to the next and assemble them to form a complete map, like a solved puzzle, to find the treasure box. To make this brain-tasking hunt even more challenging, each team was also expected to execute certain tasks with evidence of completion, while still hunting for the treasure box.

The quest kicked off at 10:35 am on the topmost floor of the e-Library, with the treasure-hunting contestants rushing out with enthusiasm, running down the staircase toward the President’s office. Cheering spectators watched with amusement as the contestants waltzed through the crowd in the library to the Career Office, the Safety and Security Department, Washington Hall, Cafeteria, and the Administration Block, before heading to Volpi Boys Residence Hall and finally to the Commencement Hall.

As the teams returned in batches, perspiring, and panting out of fatigue, they assembled their pieces of tricky clues to form their maps and wait for the result. And the winner is Team Blue-De Mentors, as announced by the Event Coordinator and Executor, Sesugh Annger, Director, Office of Students Activities and Involvement (OSAI). The winning team comprised Nabila Yusuf, Rabia Abdullazeez, Hauwa Ahmad Shuaibu, Ubaidafu Hammantukur, Rabi Ibrahim, and Fatima Dahiru Kawu.

Mrs. Emilienne Akpan, Director of the Writing Center. expressed satisfaction with the exercise which she acknowledged helped to raise awareness in the Community on academic integrity.
