On November 25, seven more students of Government Day Secondary School, Wauro-Jabbe, benefitted from the AUN Alumni Association Scholarship Foundation.
Alumni Relations Coordinator Peter Paya said that donations were received from Writing Center Director Mrs. Emilienne Akpan and Specialist Features Writer Nelly Ating through the AAASF to support disadvantaged community children gain basic education.
“We understand that education is paramount. That is why we support and ensure that these children stay in school”. He added that AUN as a development university ensures that the locals in the University’s immediate environment are impacted.
Based on their performance, the Association promised to continue supporting the students through their secondary school education.
The Assistant Director of Community Service, Ahmed Aliyu, encouraged the parents to work hard with their wards to keep the scholarships.
The Vice Principal of GDSS, Elisha Daniel, noted that throughout his 14 years of service as a teacher, he has never been part of a scholarship program before. “For someone to help, it must come from a sincere heart.”
A parent of one of the beneficiaries, Daniel Dawha, said that when the news of the scholarship spread in his neighborhood, other parents thought it was magic. He thanked the association for encouraging education.
