AUN Charter School Hosts Annual Social Science Fair

History as a motivation for social interaction, thought, and action through the years was the reoccurring theme on Friday, April 2022, as the AUN Charter School hosted its annual Social Studies Fair.

The AUN Charter School takes pride in hosting the Social Studies fair because it helps students develop inquisitiveness and thirst for knowledge and interact with different cultures and personalities worldwide.

"What we do here is to expose students to the system of knowledge and guide them to discover historical facts and events that impacted society," said Mr. Cyprian Ogon, the AUN Charter School's Head of Humanities Department.

Parents were enthralled as students presented viewers with "the Recreation of the Transatlantic Slave Trade" and how enslaved people were trafficked from West Africa to Europe and the American Continent.

The event featured a tour of an African shrine purposely built for the event, illuminating African traditions and practices of old. Another highlight was the project presentation of historical works of ancient inventors done by the AUN Charter school students.

Grade Eight students Fawaz Abdul and Dornubari Gbara presented a project on the Portuguese navigator Vasco Da Gama, who sailed from Europe to India.

Praise Nnamdi, another Grade Eight student, did a project on the missionary Mary Slessor and her humanitarian interventions.

Maryam Usman Wuro Chekke, a Grade 10 student, presented a project on the history of an Arab woman called Fatima Bint Muhammad, who is credited with founding the Al-Qarawiyyin Mosque in 859 AD in Fez, Morocco.

Parents and guests all viewed and appreciated the creative presentations by the students.

A proud parent, Mrs. Nike Bello, said that she looks forward to attending the event again, stressing that the fair is educational by helping people understand other cultures. "With the knowledge they imbibe through research, the students can explore more about other cultures," she said.
