Albert Einstein, the renowned physicist, once said, "It is the supreme art of the teacher to awaken joy in creative expression and knowledge." On May 19, 2023, during the AUN Schools Elementary section's French, Arts, and Music Day, the wise words of the Nobel laureate came to mind.
The audience was filled with applause, amusement, compliments, and excitement at the event held in the AUN Community Hall on the North Campus.
Parents and guardians, instructors, and guests were captivated by AUN Elementary pupils' thrilling and spectacular performances. There were exciting music, poetry, drama, ballet, dance, and visual arts performances.
The event was enlivened by the dexterity of Kristine and Maryam, who served as Masters of Ceremony (MC). The duo's self-assurance and articulate demeanor reflected well on the school's administration and faculty.
Curiosity filled the room, but when the Pre-Grades students began counting numbers and naming domestic and wild animals in French, it was a scene worthy of admiration.
The Grade 1 and 2 students then performed a recorded medley of several Bla Bla Black Sheep nursery rhymes, progressively luring the audience into other tuneful nursery ditties. Then, Grades 3 and 4 serenaded the audience with violin renditions of "One Love" by Bob Marley and "Perfect" by Ed Sheeran, both of which are global hits.
A full-costumed drama depicting Queen Amina of Zaria invading a community with a handful of her female combatants and achieving victory, was another captivating performance. Aisha Aliyu Boya portrayed Queen Amina, Kimberley Benjamin portrayed the Queen's Lieutenant, Esmeralda Quarcoo portrayed the Second Queen's Lieutenant, and Nicole Ijai portrayed a Commander.
Amira, Risa, Favour, Samuel, Bryan, and Ummul are a few of the other students who also performed in different events.
Aisha Babale and Philip Bill-Hansen were named Artistes of the Month.
The event also featured an arts and crafts exhibition for the enjoyment, appreciation, and sale to interested purchasers.
Ms. Victoria Olosunde, the principal and director of AUN Elementary School, stated that the French, Arts, and Music Day used to be separate events.
"This year, we combined activities of the French, Arts, and Music Days to see how it will come through. I think it was worth the risk. As you can see, we have many events to keep you entertained until the end," she said.
She thanked all her staff, both academic and non-academic, for their collective and individual efforts in grooming the pupils and making the event a great success.
