AUN Honor Society, an elite group of high-achieving students dedicated to the university's development ideals whose members excel academically, organize tutorials for their peers, and actively participate in community service projects, holds its award banquet in honor of the graduating class on Thursday, May 17, 2024, at AUN Community Hall.
AUN Honor Society President Safiyya Auwal remarked, "This celebration is a much-needed opportunity to recognize some of the most outstanding students at AUN. The Honor Society is not just about the sash, medal, or the impressive tutoring center. It's about upholding the crucial pillars of student and professional life in all situations and communities". The members of the Honor Society at AUN are celebrated for their commitment to scholarship, leadership, integrity, and service. The seniors being recognized have dedicated themselves to tutoring, leading initiatives, and teams, and demonstrating honesty and strong principles, both on and off campus. They have made significant contributions to community service and development, not only within the campus but also in the Adamawa communities. Alongside their exceptional academic achievements, they have devoted their time, effort, and resources to effecting positive global change. The Honor Society is renowned for showcasing the very best individuals.
Dr. Ash, the faculty advisor of the AUN Honor Society, emphasized the importance of leadership within the organization. He highlighted the leadership's ability to inspire and motivate others to achieve their objectives. "These students have demonstrated leadership qualities through activities such as tutoring, mentoring, and fundraising for scholarships. They have displayed courage by taking risks, advocating for justice, and exhibiting a strong commitment to community service." He also commended the outgoing leadership for their exceptional integrity and accountability, which have positively impacted both academic and non-academic spheres, benefiting those around them.
In his remarks, AUN President Dr. Dewayne Frazier stated, "What sets them apart is their dedication to service, going above and beyond, surpassing all expectations, and setting new standards of achievement. We are immensely proud of their accomplishments."
Some members of the AUN Honor Society reflected on their journey: Safiyya Auwal, the Honor Society President, shared, "The Honor Society taught me a level of leadership I never attained despite all my years of prior experience. I have learned to be more disciplined and accommodating and have become wiser. For this, I will be forever grateful."
Didi Wokemba, Vice President of the Honor Society, said, "It is important to be grateful for what you have, even the little and seemingly trivial things. Serving as Vice President and head of community service has taught me to appreciate every moment and experience, as every daily opportunity is a privilege for which we should always be thankful."
Zaida Salihu Ahmadu, General Secretary, noted, "Serving as the Honor Society Secretary has been transformative. It sharpened my communication skills, boosted my organization, and expanded my social circle. It's a journey that taught me the importance of adaptability and effective leadership."
Mene Nuka-Gbarayeghe, Head of Tutorials, remarked, "People tend to see progress only in big visible achievements. Being the Head of Tutorials Taught me that showing up and taking one step at a time, no matter how small, makes a difference."
Somtochukwu Dan Okereke, Assistant Head of Tutorials, added, "As the Assistant Head of Tutorials, I have learned skills in managing tasks and people effectively, empowering our team to deliver exceptional educational support to our peers. My experience in the Honor Society has always been about striving for excellence."
Safiyya Auwal and Didi Wokemba received the Service Award for their exceptional contributions, while Somtochukwu Dan Okereke was honored with the Best Tutor Award. Certificates were also awarded to AUN Honor Society outgoing Executives and graduating members who exemplify extraordinary leadership and service.
