As Christians around the world marked Holy Week, the President of the American University of Nigeria (AUN), Dr. DeWayne Frazier, paid a meaningful Easter visit on April 2, 2026, to the Most Reverend Musa Phanti Filibus, Archbishop of the Lutheran Church of Christ in Nigeria (LCCN). The visit highlighted the university’s commitment to community engagement, moral development, and cultural preservation.
The President described the visit as both "pleasant and purposeful." He emphasized the importance of strengthening relationships between the university and faith-based institutions. Such partnerships, he noted, play a vital role in shaping students into morally grounded and socially responsible citizens.
During the meeting, he extended a special invitation to Archbishop Filibus to attend the AUN commencement ceremony scheduled for May 9, 2026. "It will be a great honor to have you grace us or graduation," Frazier said. "This year's ceremony is particularly special, as we celebrate the resilience and achievement of about 12 of the Chibok girls who are graduating. Your presence will mean a great deal not only to them but to the entire AUN community."
Archbishop Filibus expressed gratitude and admiration for the university's efforts, describing the visit as a "heartwarming gesture of unity and shared faith." He commended AUN's leadership for its dedication to quality education and nation-building, adding, "We are encouraged by the role the institution continues to play in raising leaders for the future."
One of the most memorable moments came when Archbishop Filibus led President Frazier and his team into the preserved historic structure within the LCCN Cathedral grounds. Inside the modern church stands the original 1916 building, its modest size and form carefully maintained as a living testament to the early missionaries and the first community of believers in Numan. Standing within the compact, century-old worship space, President Frazier described the experience as "humbling, inspiring, and spiritually grounding."
The visit concluded with mutual respect and a renewed commitment to collaboration. President Frazier's pilgrimage to Numan stands as a powerful reflection of AUN's enduring values: faith, service, history, and community.
