Governor Ahmadu Fintiri Receives AUN President, delegation

Dr. DeWayne Frazier, President of the American University of Nigeria, paid a courtesy visit to Adamawa State Governor, His Excellency Rt. Honorable Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, at Government House Yola on March 5, 2024. Dr. Frazier was accompanied by the Interim Registrar and Vice President of Administration, Mr. Daniel Okereke, the Interim Provost and Vice-President of Academic Affairs, Prof. James Adewale, the Vice-President of Finance, Ms. Nnenna Mosugu, the Vice-President of Security and Safety, Dr. Lionel Von-Fredrick Rawlins, and the Head of AUN's Atiku Institute for Development, Dr. Audu Liman.

During the visit, Dr. Frazier commended Governor Ahmadu Fintiri for his efforts in developing the state, particularly in the fields of security, infrastructural development, and education. He expressed the pride of the AUN community in the Governor's good work.

Dr. Frazier also provided details about AUN's initiatives to support women and children, such as Waste-to-Wealth, the Feed and Read Program for children who are not enrolled in school, scholarships for high school and underprivileged students integrated into the Girls Enhanced Education Program (GEEP), and many more. Given how strongly the state has placed emphasis on education, Dr. Frazier suggested a collaboration with the government on scholarship programs.

The proposal was warmly received by Governor Fintiri, who announced that plans were in place to provide scholarships in the areas of science, engineering, and ICT education to about 200 Adamawa youth. Because of the excellent caliber of AUN's graduates, the governor indicated willingness to collaborate with AUN in the areas of scholarship, entrepreneurship, and skills acquisition.

Mr. Daniel Okereke, AUN's Interim Registrar and Vice President Administration, assured the Governor that the institution was both capable and willing to help him transform the state. He described how AUN launched Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) projects to pique the interest of secondary school students in Adamawa State.
