Fall 2023 students are joining AUN at a momentous period. AUN introduced Public Health and Civil Engineering this semester, bringing to 22 undergraduate degree majors. The AUN Public Health program grew from collaborations in healthcare and livelihood support with multilateral institutions, Governments, and Non-Governmental Organizations in the northeast region. The introduction also reflects AUN's commitment to humanitarian and development initiatives addressing health emergencies, improved health, and community well-being.
The Public Health program is domiciled in the newly created School of Basic Medical and Health Sciences (SBM&HS). Pending final regulatory approval, Nursing will be added to the SBM&HS in the spring 2024 semester.
According to the Provost/VPAA, Professor Attahir Yusuf: "The Public Health program is supported by an up-to-date infrastructure operated by expatriate and home faculty members”.
Professor Yusuf said the plan is to introduce allied programs such as Nursing by the beginning of the Spring 2024 Semester, and by fall next year, introduce Laboratory Technology, Anatomy, Biochemistry, Physiology, and Biotechnology and related medical and health sciences programs.
"We have partnerships and collaboration with international organizations and universities in Europe and the United States to ensure we provide our students with the opportunity for overseas learning and to build their capacity to the highest international Standard," he added.
From the School of Engineering (SoE), Civil Engineering has been introduced with specializations in Water Resources and Environmental management. The AUN School of Engineering presently offers Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Computer Engineering, and Telecommunication Engineering.
According to the Interim Dean of SoE, Dr. Abubakar Sadiq Husseini, the Electrical/Electronics and Computer Engineering programs have also added innovative concentrations in Artificial Intelligence, Renewable Energy, and Robotics courses. According to Dean Abubakar, the AUN Engineering programs, methods, and curriculum modifications align with the latest industry trends and demands.
"Our courses at the AUN School of Engineering offer a competitive edge to AUN students as it provides breadth and depth in the field of Engineering, nurturing strong theoretical and practical skills to set the foundation in the digital revolution", the Dean stated.
