Students are back! The AUN campus is buzzing again. Classes started on Tuesday, September 7, for returning students after a month-long vacation.
The classrooms are alive again, and the first day of the 2021/2022 academic session began with eager faces, renewed hopes, excitement, and more curiosity. The weather was clement, and the atmosphere buoyant.
Nafisat Ibraham Abbo, a 200-level law major, expressed joy returning to another academic year.
"I am no more a fresh student, which is heart-warming (she giggles). Today is my first day in class, and I am taking everything one step at a time….
I am taking four new courses. I am quite okay with them. My first year has taught me to be independent, selfless and how to adapt to society". Nafisat could not contain her delight.
"I am happy coming back to AUN because I am on a "new level."
Hauwa Yusrah Murtala is optimistic about the new academic year as things unfold. She was also expressing hope for her classes.
"We had two introductory courses in the 100-level, and now, we have added four courses which include Constitutional Law, Nigerian Legal System, Law, Society and Development, and Law of Contract.
"My first day in class was so good. The instructor came on time. We had a productive lecture. I am done with my 100-level without any hitches, and I believe 200-level will be even better", she said.
"I always look forward to returning to AUN because of the serene environment and friendly faculty."
Another 200-level law student Rabi Baba Lawal was also optimistic about the new academic year.
"I finished my first year with good grades, and I am prepared for my second year."
"My first class today was Nigerian legal systems which was very interesting. I enjoyed every bit of it".
" I missed my friends during the vacation. I am happy to see them and that we are resuming another school year together".
Faculty members were also not left out of the first-day feel. Assistant Professor in the School of Law, Dr. Obinna Dike, said he looked forward to the new academic session with higher expectations. "I am happy that classes have resumed and our students are back. They are the reason we are here. It is very reassuring".
He is optimistic that the academic year will succeed, judging from the zeal he saw in the students who sat on his first day of class.
"Today I had two classes. The impression I had today is that our students are prepared and very eager to learn. They have advanced to a new class and are ready to take on the added responsibility".
There is always room for improvement, Dr. Obinna admonished. "New books should be added to the library, and students should be encouraged to use both physical and online materials," he said.
