On March 25, 2022, the AUN chapter of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), the 'world's largest educational and scientific computing society,’ organized its spring semester programming contest inside the 24-hour Room of the e-library.
Certificates and prizes were handed out to winners. At the well-attended ceremony, the SITC Dean, Professor Matthias Fonkam, and the chair of the Computer Science program, Dr. Salu George Thandakkattu, enjoined students from all disciplines to embrace computing to develop themselves and widen their knowledge horizons.
Out of the twenty-one students who registered for the ACM contest in the spring 2022 semester, only seven participated in the actual competition. Three students emerged winners: Najeeb Yusuf in the first place; Doken Edgar in second place; and Kenechukwu Ozoemene, a first-year student, in third place.
The President of ACM (AUN student chapter), Mr. Elvis Obioha, said the association is committed to hosting the competition every spring.
First prize winner Najeeb Yusuf said, "I participated in this programing contest last year and I came 3rd but I decided to give it a try once more and I am glad I came first place this time around."
Third place winner Kenechukwu Ozoemene shared this with us: "I started programing when I was six years old and over the years I've participated in five competitions without winning any; but today, that story has changed. I was a bit nervous because after many years of not competing I did not know if I could meet the requirements for the competition. It was not until I started solving the problem that I began to gain confidence. I love the organization of the event and the enthusiasm of participants."
