I used to despise math. I was terrible at math until I decided to study it. I failed and failed again until I realized that math is not difficult. Math just isn't understood.
At AUN, I discovered that I like math. People approached me for aid. Although there were only a few individuals, I assisted them. I noticed an opportunity to reach out to more students during the Fall 2023 semester. The Work Study. This opportunity bore fruit, and I wanted to go through that process. I looked at all of the openings, and the Math Center's position drew my attention.. This experience also taught me how to create a CV and a resume. Even though only two persons may apply, I was the sole candidate and I thought to myself "People are terrified of math". I established trusting relationships with my supervisor, Dr. Osho Ajayi, and Miss Beki, a math teaching assistant. They taught me the ins and outs of tutoring AUN students in math. As the lone applicant, the job ahead was daunting, but I kept my chin up. Because my time was being tested, one thing this work-study taught me was time management. Throughout the semester, the majority of my daytime breaks were occupied by the work-study.
This work-study taught me that most individuals avoid math because it appears to be tough. It also helped me to understand why those individuals are terrified of math, as I was once one of them. In contrast to the writing center, not many people come to the math center. Students only showed up when they needed assistance with an exam or quiz. Most of the sessions were studies done at the last minute, while some arrived to learn more. I liked working at the math center since it allowed me to handle various tasks during downtime and learn more about mathematical ideas.I'm thankful to God and AUN for giving me the chance to learn more about the advantages and disadvantages of working in a professional setting. Especially in an area such as the Math Center. "Math is not difficult; it is just not understood," is how I would conclude.
