The impact of the AUN community service on alums lingers long after graduation. AUN alums in recent times have shown good examples in representing the University, especially through community engagements, which is also an essential aspect of the education students receive on campus.
On Tuesday, May 2, 2023, Ms. Rahma Oreoluwa Olaniyan put a smile on the faces of several families in Yola by enrolling five kids into school and providing them with school uniforms, bags, and writing materials.
Ms. Oreoluwa who graduated in 2021, is currently working as a backend developer at Hybrid Tech. She said she had been into community service for a while, but coming to the American University of Nigeria gave her greater motivation to carry out projects on her own. She stressed how she was privileged to have parents who supported her throughout her life at AUN.
The software engineering graduate noted that the mindset and attitude toward education developed at a young age by young people is very crucial to society; adding that it is one reason she is more focused on helping young people is shaping their mindset and enabling them to be responsible and respectable members of their community.
“Charity is one of the core principles of my religion. There is much reward in it. It is one of the means through which I hope to please my Creator”, she said.
“I firmly believe that education is important, and where I cannot help with formal education, I try to help with skill acquisition and empowerment”.
Ms. Oreoluwa vowed to focus on enrolling more out-of-school children annually and committed to regular checkups and communication with the parents of the children.
Mr. Abdulmumin Ahmed, the father of two beneficiaries, appreciated the kind gesture. He also appreciated AUN for giving students and alums the platform to assist the local communities.
