Academic Advising & Retention Unit Tips Students on Study Skills

On November 27, 2023, the Office of Academic Advising and Retention, organized a study skill seminar for students in preparation for the fall semester examinations.

The seminar, which held at the middle floor of the e-Library aimed at providing the necessary study skills and insights to students, based on their preferences. The Advising and Retention unit, a vital student support unit and a unique feature of the American University educational model responsible for ensuring that students are on the right track of study to achieve excellent results in their various fields of study would be leading the sessions.

Using her vast experience in dealing with students over the years, Director of Academic Advising & Retention, Ms. Enoh Obindu got students who were shy to ease into the session and actively interact by answering or fielding questions.

The seminar exposed attendees to study skills that enable students to perform excellently in examinations. These skills include effective time management, research skills, reading and comprehension, self-discipline to avoid procrastination, critical thinking to figure out vital points and areas of concentration, and group study to exchange ideas between peers.

The seminar also featured a group of students, Safiyyah Auwal (Law), Somtochukwu Dan-Okereke (Software Engineering), and Mene Nuka-Gbarayegbe (Law) who shared, from their experiences, many insights with fellow students on how to succeed academically.

Also in attendance was the 15th AUN Founder’s Day Speaker, Dr. Steven Titus, alongside his wife, Sarah, and daughter, Anna.
