A 2010 graduate of Telecommunications & Wireless Technologies, Philip Oni, has earned a doctorate in Electrical & Computer Engineering from Queen's University, Canada.
Dr. Oni who was in AUN’s pioneer class.
The Interim Dean of the School of Engineering, Dr. Abel Ajibesin, who broke the news to our team also noted that Dr. Oni has a great passion for Engineering from the outset.
Both the Dean of SITC, Dr. Mathias Fonkam, and Program Chair of Telecoms and Wireless Technologies, Dr. Abubakar Sadiq Hussaini, have sent their congratulations to their former student.
"I am glad he has completed his Ph.D. in Engineering”, Dr. Ajibesin said.
“I can describe Philip as a leader, academic, and researcher. He played a leading role in the AUN IEEE Student Society in 2009 and became the first president of the club.”
Dr. Ajibesin added that he has been collaborating with the young scholar on research and they have published two academic papers together in “flagship” conferences.
Upon graduation from AUN, Dr. Oni traveled abroad for his master’s degree at the University of Vaasa, Finland, where he bagged the Master of Science (Technology) in Telecommunications Engineering in 2013.
He proceeded to Queen's University, Kingston, where he had another Master’s in Applied Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering in 2015.
According to Dean Ajibesin, Dr. Oni, who currently works as the R&D Distributed Systems Engineer at Huawei, Toronto Research Center, Canada, said the only way to develop Africa is for African professionals in the diaspora to come back to the continent and participate in the developmental of their countries now that the world is looking towards Africa and Nigeria especially as the hub of new advancement in innovative technologies and artificial intelligence.
Dr. Oni has taught seniors and finals at Queen's University, Canada, as an instructor of Computer Networks and has as well written quite many published articles for conferences and workshops in the US and Canada.
