The Fall 2021 activities expo was held on Saturday, October 23, at the Commencement Hall. All student clubs at AUN were present to showcase their profile to new and returning students and to woo the undecided. The aim of the activities expo has always been, as the name implies, to show the different activities and clubs available at AUN.
The premier student club, the Campus Activities Board (CAB), was at the venue with video games and other attractions. This was to attract new members and add a little bit of fun to an otherwise stressful semester. Like Stallion Radio and even athletic clubs such as the volleyball and basketball teams, other student clubs were there to find prospective members.
The Vice President for Public Relations and Advertising, Ekene Onyekwere, a Communication, and Multimedia Design student, had this to say about the event: "The Activities Expo has traditionally been an event held for the introduction of freshmen into the social life of AUN. It is an event where all the student groups come to show themselves and get new members".
"This year, we decided to do it differently because we needed to provide a fun and engaging environment for the students," Said Ekene. He said CAB had brought table tennis, basketball, and even a trampoline so that students could unwind after a mainly testing semester. "We also had refreshments and activities for the students to make the whole process more interesting. I can say it was a success. Students had fun and several clubs recorded massive sign ups." Several club executives confirmed that the event helped them register new members.
The President of Stallion Radio, Alamin Ahmed, a senior Software Engineering major, said the activities expo was helpful to Stallion Radio as an opportunity to create more awareness on campus. "The overall turnout was good and we look forward to improving. We were able to find new members".
Asmau Aminu, a senior majoring in Communications and Multimedia Design, remarked that, "It was a well-organized activity which gave a lot of students the opportunities to explore different clubs and what they are all about. I even saw clubs I never knew existed."
giving her impression of AUN after the event, Amarachi Nzekwe, a freshman majoring in Natural and Environmental Sciences, said the event was fun. "We got a lot of free stuff and I met a lot of beautiful people. I think AUN has an active social life."
Another student, Nancy Bumba, an International and Comparative Politics major, said, "It was really nice I enjoyed it, especially the bouncing castle. I had a lot of sweets and found out about new clubs." The event achieved the desired effects as students were having fun all around with glowing faces.
