AUN Academy Celebrates Annual Language day

On November 4, the AUN Academy celebrated its annual Language Day with the theme, "Language for Peace, Unity and Development." The colorful event was also marked with debates, dance, poems, and drama performances.

According to the Academy's HOD Languages, Ogbaka Odama Gabriel, the Language Day is an event where students demonstrate language competence to boost foreign language learning and express emotions in a controlled way through poetry, which opens avenues for speaking and listening.

This is to help students develop critical thinking and social expression skills.

A series of debates brought excitement. Saint Mary Secondary School and Saint Peter Seminary squared off on the topic "Open grazing should be abolished in Nigeria"; Air Force Comprehensive Secondary School and BOSCO Comprehensive secondary school debated the topic, "Entrepreneurship should be abolished in Nigeria"; Federal Government Girls College, Yola, (FGGC) and Government Girls Secondary School Yola squared-off on the topic, "Nigeria needs to be restructured to remain united." The grand finale was AUN Academy versus Concordia College, whose debate topic was: "NYSC should be scrapped."

The student debaters marshaled their points and won the applause of the audience.

The event also featured a drama presentation, a French-Chinese performance by the AUN Academy students, while General Murtala Mohammed College students gave a dance performance.

Gifts were later presented to the student debaters and performers.
