The Atiku Institute for Development at the American University of Nigeria (AUN), in collaboration with the International Rescue Committee and under the supervision of USAID, has launched a project to provide basic educational foundations to out-of-school children and youth in the BAY (Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe) states.
The partnership will focus on providing a holistic learning experience for these children and youth by integrating basic education, an innovative curriculum, and an Accelerated Basic Education Program (ABEP), will be offered. This program combines academic learning and prepares participants for both higher education and career opportunities.
Speaking on the partnership, the Opportunity to Learn (OtL) Teacher Professional Lead, Mrs. Elizabeth Raymond, emphasized the important role Otl plays in ensuring that children acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to progress to the next level. She stated, "Not only do we train the facilitators with the right pedagogy, but we also track learners' improvement. "
Professor Abubakar Sadiq Hussaini, the Administrator of Grants and Contracts and Deputy Chief of Party at the Atiku Institute for Development, which is renowned for its work in advancing education and sustainable development, will bring a wealth of experience to the project.
"Our mission has always been to foster development through education. This initiative will not only benefit the children and youth of Nigeria but also contribute to the overall socio-economic growth of the country."
The project is dedicated to reaching out-of-school children and youth from underprivileged backgrounds. Its mission is to provide these individuals with access to modern learning tools and resources, with the ultimate aim of ensuring that no one is left behind in the journey toward educational and professional success. By fostering an inclusive environment, the project endeavors to create a space where every child has the opportunity to thrive and grow.
