The newly elected leadership of the AUN Community Cooperative Society hit the ground running, having set up three ad hoc committees ahead of its formal inauguration in January 2020.
The committees are to help to chart a new direction for the society in the coming years.
The five-member committees, except the Transition Committee, with an executive mandate to wind down by December 31, 2019, are for transition, transportation, and operational guidelines.
The Transition Committee, chaired by Prof Jennifer H. Mike with David Sikan as the secretary, is purpose-built to plan the handover to the crop of leaders elected on November 28, 2019. Other members are Balteh Murtala, Kucheli Samuel, and Ms. Onyebuchi Noshiri.
Yakubu Tantila chairs the Transport Committee with the incoming vice president, Mrs. Ogechi Dan-Okereke as the secretary. Mohammed A. Bello, Simon Caleb, and Bridget Augustine are members. The committee's mandate is to explore investment possibilities in the transport sector, a bid to generate an alternative income source.
Pioneer General Secretary, Nas Yakubu, heads the Operational Guidelines Committee with Modester Anih as the secretary. Other members are Innocent Nwobodo, Sani Isa, and Jalas James. This committee has a mandate to develop policies and procedures in compliance with the by-laws and to fill any missing gaps that might be available. It can further stand as an interpretation of some clauses from the by-law for administrative easy reference.
All three committees are free to co-opt any cooperator as they deem fit.
"The underlying focus of this exercise is to guide the Society's operations to deliver on the popular programs which formed the very basis of our campaign promises, said the re-elected president, Adamu Umar, at the committees' inauguration on December 7,2019.
"The incoming administration must plan and act well to ease out our growing challenges that continue to haunt public perceptions about our society. You all have a duty to make this happen."
