The American University of Nigeria (AUN) has joined the league of over 3,500 Academic Institutions by partnering with Academic Impressions (AI), the largest provider of leadership development for higher educational institutions worldwide.
Academic Impressions is an organization focused on building academic capacity. It offers training programs in leadership development, professional skills, and other competency areas to higher education faculty and administrators across the United States and Canada. AI’s goal is to strengthen the knowledge and expertise of individuals, teams, and institutions to help address challenges in higher education.
The President of AI, Mr. Mrig, highlighted the increasing gap between the supply of higher education in Africa and the rising demand and maintained that it is crucial to prioritize the development of higher education capacity across the continent. “We know there will be a tremendous increase in demand for higher education globally, and as the leading resource on leadership, we want to contribute value where we can,” noted Mr. Amit Mrig, President of AI.
The President of the American University of Nigeria, Dr. DeWayne Frazier expressed his profound gratitude for this magnanimous gesture by AI during this period of global economic recession. “In a period of economic challenges, organizations usually rescind investments in professional development for their faculty and staff. In these challenging times, the American University of Nigeria continues to find ways to invest in our people, as they are our most valuable asset.”
He further stated, "The more we can provide for them in professional development, the entire university benefits, especially our students. I am particularly thankful to Mr. Amit Mrig and Academic Impressions for this partnership. I have known Amit for almost a decade, and you will not find a professional more dedicated to this type of education for faculty and staff, and his company has touched hundreds of thousands of people across the nation, and now, the world.”
AUN Writing Center Director Emilienne Akpan, who also serves as the AUN/AI liaison for faculty, said she is pleased with the partnership. She added, "This collaboration will enhance the pedagogical skills of our faculty and foster a culture of continuous improvement to position our institution at the forefront of innovative teaching and learning practices. By leveraging the resources and expertise at Academic Impressions, we will strengthen our commitment to excellence, sustain the transformative learning experiences of our students, and facilitate valuable networking prospects for the university community."
Monica Adama of the AUN Human Resources Department, who also serves as the AI desk officer for AUN staff, praised President Frazier for championing this commendable initiative, “This signifies a strategic investment in AUN’s employees, promising not only professional growth but also long-term benefits for the university,” she noted.
The partnership will provide interested members of the AUN community with a range of offerings from the Academic Impression to enhance their professional development.
