AUN's Class of 2016 Speaker Kingsley Jima Awarded Ph.D. Scholarship in Germany

AUN Alum and International and Comparative Politics graduate Kingsley Jima has been offered a scholarship to study for a doctorate at the University of Bayreuth, Germany. This four year ‘Doctoral Researcher Position’ is at the Africa Multiple Cluster of Excellence of the University of Bayreuth; funded by the Excellence Strategy of the German Federal and State Governments.

As a Research Associate in the University, which is located in Northern Bavaria, 100 km south of Leipzig, where he studied for his Master's degree, Kingsley will split his time between his doctoral thesis and a research project focusing on "The Politics of the Unknown, ‘Conspiracism’ and Conflicts (in Nigeria)." A transnational approach would be adopted to address how conspiracist narratives inspire new political group formations across continents and nationalities. ICP faculty and Kingsley's untiring mentor, Professor Bill Hansen, broke this exciting news to President Ensign and other academic leaders on Wednesday, September 8.

Professor Hansen wrote: "Kingsley Jima, a Yola native and graduate of AUN (POLIS 2016), did his NYSC after graduating from AUN. He then got a prestigious EU-funded Erasmus Mundus scholarship to do an MA in Global Studies at the University Leipzig. He did his first year of the 2-year program at the University of Leipzig (Germany) and his second year at the University of Vienna (Austria). He recently completed his MA thesis and was awarded a Distinction ‘(1- Sehr Gut)’ for his project.”
