AUN SENSE Project, A Model for Effecting Learning

A study examining the effectiveness of the AUN’s Strengthening Education in the Northeast Nigeria States (SENSE), co-authored by Presley R. Obukoadata, Katerina Hammler, Hassan Yusuf, Audu Liman, and Jamiu S. Olumoh has been published by Springer.

The study titled, “Transacting knowledge when there are no schools during the COVID-19 lockdown in Nigeria: the SENSE-transactional radio instruction (TRI) experience” was published on January 5, 2024.

The SENSE Project, funded by USAID, was designed to address the daunting challenges facing the basic education system in Adamawa and Gombe States. It was a three-year basic education project to improve identifiable outcomes for learners in lower primary grades through teacher training, improved community engagement, and the provision of teaching and learning materials

The study conclusively asserts that the mid-term SENSE-TRI evaluation had yielded positive results, as all five major subtasks of letter identification, syllable identification, non-word reading, familiar word reading, and reading comprehension recorded statistically significant higher scores for the treatment groups for all genders as compared to the comparison groups.

The published article has garnered three hundred and forty-three readerships since publication.
