The American University of Nigeria has received a donation of Lenovo Tab P11 touchscreen tablet PCs from MyHealthIowa- MiSaludIowa, a US-based non-profit organization founded by Dr. Jimmy A. Reyes an Assistant Professor of Practice at the University of Northern Iowa's Department of Nursing and Public Health and also Fellow of Regulatory Excellence with the United States Council of State Boards of Nursing.
Dr. Reyes was in Yola, the Home of the American University of Nigeria in the fall of 2023 semester, to help review AUN’s Nursing and Public Health degree programs, where he picked an interest in expanding his research on the impact of self-management of diabetes in some communities in Iowa in the United States to some communities in Adamawa state and to work collaboratively with AUN Faculty and student researchers.
"We are conducting a three-year study exploring the impact of diabetes self-management among underserved communities in Iowa, United States, and selected Local Government Areas in Adamawa, Nigeria; and the Foundation facilitated the purchase of several touchscreen tablets that will be used to collect data with support from the Atiku Institute for Development research assistants. Also, the tablets will be used for future research activities," Dr. Jimmy A. Reyes, said.
The President of the American University of Nigeria, Dr. DeWayne Frazier, was visibly delighted to receive the donation. “Dr. Jimmy A. Reyes is one of the hardest working and kindest gentlemen I know. He is very selfless and constantly looking for ways to help others as evident in this most recent gift. He is a great partner with his work at the University of Northern Iowa, Rotary Club, and through his private foundation, MyHealthIowa- MiSaludIowa. AUN is thankful and blessed to have such a friend,” he stated.
President Frazier promised that the tablet PCs would be used wisely for their intended purpose, and he also expressed enthusiasm for future collaboration between AUN and MyHealthIowa-MiSaludIowa Foundation.
