Mr. Peter Obi, the Labor Party (LP) presidential aspirant in the 2023 general elections, served as the keynote speaker during the Founders Day celebration at the American University of Nigeria (AUN). The event took place on November 30th in the prestigious Commencement Hall of the university, marking an occasion dedicated to honoring the institution's vision and contributions.
Following the celebration, Mr. Obi visited the Feed-and-Read facility at the AUN's Atiku Institute of Development (AUN-AID), where he engaged with the out-of-school children as a unique guest teacher, focusing on teaching them literacy. His visit was met with enthusiasm, as the children demonstrated determination and eagerness to embrace the educational opportunities provided by AUN.
Expressing his admiration for AUN's initiatives, Mr. Obi advocated for similar programs to be implemented across Nigeria, particularly in the Northern regions, where the out-of-school children index remains alarmingly high. "This program embodies what we have always advocated for: a concerted effort to reintegrate 20 million out-of-school children into the educational system," he emphasized. "Education is the most critical tool for development, and we cannot afford to leave these children behind. Investing in their future is essential for the growth of our country."
Dr. Abubakar Sadiq Hussaini, the Head of AUN- AID and Administrator of Grants and Contracts at AUN, warmly welcomed Mr. Obi and expressed gratitude to the university's founder, Atiku Abubakar, for his enduring commitment to educational reform and community development.
The event left an emotional impression, highlighted by Mr. Obi's silent yet profound interaction with the children. His attentive gaze and nods conveyed a message of hope and encouragement in the lives of the vulnerable children.
