A group of enthusiastic students from Deeper Life High School (DLHS), Yola, recently embarked on an enlightening visit to the American University of Nigeria (AUN). The excursion aimed to spark their interest in science and technology by providing direct exposure to the university's advanced research facilities.
During their tour, students explored various laboratories, immersing themselves in a rich environment of scientific inquiry. From the complexities of biological cells to the enigmas of Earth's geological history, participants engaged with cutting-edge experiments and gained insights into the real-world applications of scientific principles.
The biology, physics, petrochemical, and geology labs offered hands-on experience, allowing students to delve into scientific concepts beyond traditional classroom settings. A visit to the nursing demonstration room also provided valuable perspectives into the healthcare sector.
Mr. Olanipekun Segun Gabriel, a biology teacher at DLHS, expressed his enthusiasm for the trip, stating, "AUN has equipped our students with a deeper understanding of their academic studies and introduced them to various career paths. By witnessing real-world applications and advanced equipment, students can establish meaningful connections with their classroom learning."
Reflecting on the visit, an SSI student of the school, Ms. Cara Timothy, remarked, "I learned about the spectrometer and its role in measuring substances. Seeing a water distiller for the first time was fascinating, and this experience has reinforced my aspiration to pursue a career in Petroleum Engineering."
Similarly, Mr. Allen Marshal, an SS2 student, shared his impressions of the facilities, stating, "I was astounded, AUN have everything a science student could desire. I learned to use an elemental analyzer to identify elements in various substances and discovered the different types of rocks. I was particularly intrigued by the application of UV light in cancer treatment."
The visit to AUN proved to be a pivotal experience for these young minds. AUN has inspired the next generation of scientists and innovators by bridging the gap between theoretical study and practical application.
