As part of the American University of Nigeria's (AUN) commitment to preparing students for academic growth and real-world participation, all students are required to engage in community service, which aims to bridge the gap between the institution and the community.
Every year, AUN residence halls compete in a residential project competition. To give back to the community, students choose a project and coordinate fundraising amongst themselves. In an admirable demonstration of their commitment to community service, the residents of AA painted an examination hall, gave out uniforms, and paid the school fees of some pupils of Sanda Girls Primary School on March 22, 2024.
Tolulope Nwobodo, the Dorm ‘AA’ Residence Director, said “AA residents really surprised me by how they were willing to give their resources and were happy about the impact they make in the lives of the pupils. I am glad to be their Residence Director, I know with their commitment they will be able to pick up personal projects.”
The Head Teacher of Sanda Girls Primary School, Hauwa Abbas, Thank the AA Residents for supporting the underprivileged students “you have made a meaningful difference in the lives of these pupils, and I am proud of this initiative in bringing positive change, Thank you so very much may God bless and replenish wherever this is coming from,” She said.
According to the Assistant Director of Community Service, Mr. Aliyu Ahmed, AUN as a development university is to encourage its students to always give back to the community. “We want the community to feel the impact of the university, Sanda girl’s primary school being a single school is perfect for the project since AA residence is a ladies’ resident hall.”
