Associate Professor of Chemistry and Chair, AUN Department of Petroleum Chemistry and Physics, Dr. Bolade Agboola, and two laboratory technologists at AUN, Chikaodili Chukwuneke and Ms. Isioma Ibewuike, have published a paper: “Navigating Analytical Chemistry Labs During COVID-19: Perspective of a Nigerian University.” One of the researchers, Dr. Agboola, sent in this report:
"The paper focused on our experience in a hybrid lab implementation of physical lab meetings and virtual laboratories during the off-campus arrangement due to the pandemic in 2020. The research work case study was on one of my classes in 2020, CHE 330 (Analytical Chemistry, Lab section), and was published by Chikaodili Chukwuneke (an AUN Alumnus and former Lab staff), Ms. Isioma Ibewuike (Senior Lab Technologist) and myself.
"From our study, we can conclude that virtual laboratories are important for knowledge dissemination if physical meetings are not possible, but overall, the in-person lab was more impactful on the students.
"The paper was published in the Journal of Chemical Education (JCE). The journal addresses chemistry instructional methods and pedagogies in classes and laboratories. It is published by the Division of Chemical Education of the American Chemical Society (ACS). American Chemical Society (ACS) journals are widely believed to be the most trusted, cited, and read chemistry-based journals.
"We hope that this publication will motivate faculty members to research teaching and learning in their areas of the discipline."
