To commemorate Nigeria's 63rd Independence anniversary, the AUN Campus Activities Board (CAB) of the Student Affairs Division organized a series of activities highlighting our students' creative genius. A very pulsating gala night on the evening of October 1, which was attended by President DeWayne Frazier, VP for Finance, Mrs. Nnenna Mosugu, Dean of Student Affairs Mr. Byron Bullock, and other senior administration officials, featured sections of dance, fun, and exciting activities. From a cultural parade that showcased the sartorial vibrancy of Nigeria's ethnic groups to dances performed by the AUN's Dance Troupe and poetry recitations by members of the Spoken Words and Poetry Club, the audience was thoroughly entertained.
Hubaidatu Haman-Tukur, Aisha Ibrahim, and Belkisu Alkali ably represented the Spoken Words and Poetry Club with poems that echoed the spirit, hopes, and aspirations of Nigerians.
The Galaxy Band, the pride of the AUN Community, treated the audience to a listening pleasure, dishing out different genres of local and international music.
There was also a ‘Best-dressed Guest competition’, which President DeWayne Frazier won.
Dean of Students and Campus Life, Mr. Byron Bullock, who delivered the Independence Speech, wished Nigeria and Nigerians a happy Independence anniversary. Dean Byron, who spoke in many Nigerian languages to identify with the diversity of AUN students, staff, and faculty, stated that independence is the state or quality of being independent.
He stated that as an institution of higher learning, AUN, in the spirit of independence, will continue providing the necessary pathway for students to rule their hearts, guide their thoughts, and control their lives to make significant contributions to better Nigeria and the world.
