President Frazier Donates $1,000 as Atiku Institute Begins New Girls Education Enhancement Program

President DeWayne Frazier has donated $1,000 to kick start a new education program to boost girls' education in Adamawa State.

The Atiku Institute for Development (AID) of the American University of Nigeria (AUN) developed the Girls Education and Enhancement Program (GEEP) in partnership with the Adamawa State Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development and its departments and agencies.

The Girl's Education and Enhancement Program (GEEP) will launch at Sanda Model School on October 30 at 10 a.m.

Head of Atiku Institute for Development and Education Technical Lead, Dr. Audu Liman, also made a personal donation of N200,000 toward the takeoff of the project.

President Frazier commended AID for initiating GEEP and pledged full support to achieve its objectives.

"I am eager to be a part of this program as it is not only exciting and timely but in the true spirit of our great University. This is outstanding news. I am eager to meet our girls and encourage them to work hard in school to realize their dreams", the President declared.

According to the information brochure sent by Dr. Liman, "GEEP will be piloted at Sanda Model Girls Primary and Secondary School. GEEP will provide after-school lessons in Mathematics, English, and ICT subjects.

"The target class is JSS3 and SS3 students. For this pilot, 100 SS3 students out of a total of 170 students at the school were screened and accepted for GEEP. Classes will run daily for an hour each and will provide homework support to the girls".

The brochure also stated that AUN students will facilitate this initiative after receiving training and technical support from AUN and the Adamawa State Ministry of Education staff. Students will be provided with a snack and a health and hygiene pack.

"The program will also include: a life-skills acquisition training once a week, whereby the girls will learn a trade and contribute to them gaining their agency in the society, a health and hygiene component to provide the girls with relevant information to live a healthy life. The program will be evaluated at the end of the first cohort and revisions to the approach will be made based on the result of the evaluation", according to the brochure.
