On February 12, 2024, the President of the American University of Nigeria (AUN), Professor DeWayne Frazier, extended a heartfelt gesture by presenting dignity kits to beneficiaries of the Girls Education and Enhancement Project (GEEP). GEEP, launched in 2023 focuses on providing quality education and skills to girls in Yola. The project is being implemented by the Atiku Institute for Development in collaboration with the Adamawa State Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development.
President Frazier, who made a personal donation of one million naira to kickstart the GEEP project, encouraged the girls to persist in their dreams. He acknowledged the transformative power of education and the role it has played in society.
President Frazier lauded the collaborative efforts of AUN students who come from different cultures, working together to achieve a common goal. While commending the girls for their hard work, he acknowledged the effort put in by women towards education, noting that they are the backbone of Nigerian society.
During the presentation, President Frazier delivered an empowering message: “Holding the limitations that you truly have are the ones that you put on yourself, you put many things in this life as long as you put your mind to it, People can’t take away your mind and your soul from you, it will stay with you for the rest of your life.”
The GEEP has positively impacted over 100 girls in Yola, enhancing their academic performance and empowering them to start small businesses after acquiring valuable life skills.
Hassana Abdulrazak, a GEEP beneficiary from Lamido Sanda Government School, expressed gratitude, stating that the training has equipped her with skills in soap production and other sanitization products. "The GEEP program has taught me how to produce soap by myself, and I have my own business now, I thank you AUN for coming to my aid," she stated.
Each Dignity kit presented included essential items such as Sanitary pads, Toothbrush and Soaps.
