SBE Faculty on Experiential Learning Approach

Dr. Lukman Raimi of the School of Business & Entrepreneurship (SBE) has urged stakeholders in education and management to integrate the Experiential Learning Approach (ELA) as a teaching tradition in Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs).

"Entrepreneurs should be called activators, facilitators or coaches, and not teachers or instructors, for the fact that we are meant to guide students, give the opportunity for trial and error to gear productivity and creativity," said the Assistant Professor of Entrepreneurship & CSR at the SBE seminar held on November 1, 2019.

Expert educationists at primary, secondary and tertiary levels have recommended ELA as an effective means of delivering instructions in all learning contexts because it creates enabling conditions for engaged learning, assimilation, collaboration, and retention.

He pointed out that the majority of universities are gradually drifting away from their usual undergraduate programs to research-based ones, citing the University of Ibadan as a typical example.

He also mentioned the importance of having train the trainers (TTT) workshops for educators in various tertiary institutions and that SBE would be organizing one soon.

A professor of marketing & former dean of SBE, Prof. Linus Osuagwu, was delighted at the level of intellect and knowledge at the seminar.

"This seminar is an eye-opener to look beyond only theories and short-term business ideas in the teaching and learning ecosystem. It shows how great our youths can be irrespective of their field of studies with just a twist in the method of delivery and learning."

The seminar did not just focus on what ELA means but also explored imperatives, tools, and techniques including beneficial outcomes in the field of entrepreneurship and other areas of specialization in HEIs.
