SITC Ph.D. Candidates Present Research Work

SITC's doctoral students opened their internal thesis defense on May 17, 2023. Six doctoral candidates presented their work for review before an enthusiastic academic audience of a technical review panel, faculty, students, and staff.

The Dean of SAS and Chair of the Deans' Council, Dr. Patrick Fay, chaired the event hosted by the Interim Dean of SITC, Dr. Abel Ajibesin.

Ms. Hadiza Ali Umar, who presented first assessed Non-technical losses in power distribution using Bayesian Network and other machine learning algorithms. Her study aims to develop a framework for identifying Non-technical losses and measuring their effects on the sustainability and growth of power distribution in a developing country like Nigeria.

Ms. Naima Abubakar's study, "Investigating a link between mobile phone use and social inclusion of Women: A case study of Hausa Women in Nigeria", focuses on how mobile phone use by Hausa women contributes to their social inclusion.

Ms. Nakama Falu Davi presented her study: "An evaluation of the scale-up and sustainability of mHealth in Adamawa State, Nigeria: An activity theory perspective", while Ms. Chioma Anadozie's study, "Impact of mobile phone use on farmers' livelihood: The case of rural farmers in an armed conflict zone of northeast Nigeria" aims to develop a model that captures the use and impact of mobile phone technology on the entire agricultural value chain and as it affects farmers' livelihoods.

Mr. Nachindiya Nathan presented "Determinants for adopting mobile health in health institutions in Nigeria."
