On January, 31, 2025, the AUN Community was privileged to receive the Honorable Minister of Women Affairs, Mrs. Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, who came on a one-day visit. The mission of the Honorable Minister, her first since her appointment into the Federal Executive Council, last year, was to engage with the Chibok girls studying in the American University of Nigeria under the scholarship of the Federal Government, and reaffirm the government's commitment to their empowerment and well-being.
She commended AUN for its commitment to academic excellence, skill development, and holistic student support, aligning with the ministry's vision of empowering young people for self-reliance and success. The Honorable Minister expressed her satisfaction with the educational and psychological progress made by the students from Chibok under the mentorship of the university. The minister encouraged the girls to take full advantage of the support they are receiving and equip themselves with the skills needed to become independent, empowered women. With continued collaboration between the government and AUN, the future looks promising for these young women as they work toward self-reliance and success in their chosen paths, the Honorable Minister stated.
The Hon Minister further commended AUN's inclusive and innovative approach to education, highlighting one of the university’s key sustainability programs, the Waste-to-Wealth initiative, which transforms waste materials into valuable products, as highly commendable.
She also revealed her Ministry's plan to ensure that students begin earning some income while still in university by equipping them with practical skills, entrepreneurship training, and job opportunities.
AUN President, Dr. DeWayne Frazier, extolled the Chibok girls' determination to overcome challenges and strive for excellence.
