AUN Community Reaps Benefits of Health Fair

Not everything we learn happens in a classroom. On the 7th of April 2017, a health fair was organized by the AUN Employee Wellness Program (EWP), HR, and AUN Clinic.

It offered free and confidential medical tests on blood sugar level, blood pressure, and HIV status, with lectures on important topics such as Down's syndrome, breast cancer, and stress.  The fair created an excellent atmosphere away from the formal detached nature of the hospital, serving as a perfect opportunity for medical personnel to meet patients on the latter's turf.

Chief Administrator of the Clinic, Philip Eappen, said it was a perfect event for medical personnel to work in tandem for the community's improved health. "We organized this program to make people aware of health problems and solutions to them," he said.

AUN Students Red Cross Society and Public Health Club played their part, offering assistance with passion, pride and finesse. They checked weight, height of participants and concise presentation on Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, commonly known as CPR.  "We want to help save lives and teach people to do the same," said Gwaha Madwatte, the Red Cross President.

The Health Fair was well attended, boasting the presence of reputable NGOs such as Spring of Hope and Global Health and Social Awareness Foundation.

Staff, students, and visitors benefited from the event, which served to teach and to provide the perfect merger of public health and medicine.
