A former Deputy Vice-Chancellor Administration in Taraba State University, Dr. J. S. Rishante is also one-time Director of Academic Planning and Quality Assurance, Academic Dean, and Program Chair. He first joined AUN in 2012 with vast experience in faculty hiring and retention, Curriculum design, implementation, and evaluation (B.Sc., M.Sc., and Ph.D.) in a number of Nigerian universities with proven competence in applying the National University Commission guidelines for program accreditation in Nigerian universities. In addition to serving in senior management positions including council membership.
His research interest focuses on the area of Visual Communication and Diffusion of Innovations where he has authored many journal articles and books. He has played key roles in major international research including An Evaluation of the Sustainability of the Community Directed Treatment with Ivermectin (CDTI) in Adamawa State, funded by WHO and Helen Keller International (2006); A Survey to Determine the Knowledge, Attitude and Practices of Indigenous People in Relation to the Control of Eye Diseases in Borno State of Nigeria,  funded by World Health Organization (WHO) through Helen Keller International (2005); In Search of the Divining Rod: Hydrological Research in Northern Nigeria,  a Linkage International Research program between University of Jos and McMaster University Canada, funded by the Canadian International Development Agency (2000); Adolescent Sexuality Programs in Plateau State-funded by John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation (1997).
A former Commissioner of Education in Taraba State with vast experience in community development programs, he has designed and developed four student-centered multimedia design studios in the University of Jos, Ahmadu Bello University, Kwararafa University, and Taraba State University. Rishante is a pioneer film animator and puppetry designer in Nigeria while he was Controller of Television Production services with the Nigerian Television Authority in the 70s. Rishante has a proven scholarly ability to successfully carry out applied research projects for NGOs at the national and international levels. He is a Licentiate Member of the International Congress of Graphic Design Associations, as well as affiliated with a number of professional bodies in Nigeria.
