13th Commencement: U.S. Ambassador Leonard Commends AUN as 'Bright, Pulsating Light,' Highlights Competitive Advantage

The American University of Nigeria graduated another batch of industry-ready students in a colorful and exciting ceremony on Saturday, May 21, 2022.

President Margee Ensign presented graduation diplomas to a total of 266 students made up of 247 undergraduates and 19 graduate students during the ceremony attended by the AUN Founder, His Excellency, Atiku Abubakar, GCON, the Executive Governor of Adamawa State, His Excellency Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, AUN Trustees, members of the Governing Council, senior AUN Management, families and friends of the graduating students.

The Spring 2022 semester was the 34th uninterrupted academic semester since the University opened its door for studies in 2005. The graduates came from the School of Information Technology & Computing (SITC) 96; School of Arts & Sciences (SAS) 116; School of Business & Entrepreneurship (SBE) 13; and School of Law (SoL) 22.

Keynote speaker and ambassador of the United States to Nigeria, Mary Beth Leonard, challenged the graduates to take advantage of their education at AUN to make a difference in the world.

"Whatever career you decide to pursue, AUN has provided you with a rigorous education. It has provided you with the knowledge and tools to prepare you for your future. And it has provided you with relationships and a network that will guide you for a lifetime".

Ambassador Leonard commended AUN for its outstanding commitment to change and development in the community and for emerging as a "bright, pulsating light" for education and enlightenment in the region and the country.

Ambassador Leonard became the first U.S. ambassador to deliver a keynote speech at AUN. The University conferred on her the Doctor of Humane Letters (Honoris Causa) during the course of the colorful ceremonies.

Natural and Environmental Sciences major Emmanuel Funsho Alakunle emerged as Valedictorian for the 2022 class, while Communications and Multimedia Design major Ms. Ojonoka Martha Rose Braimah was the selected Class Speaker.
