Alum Adamu Aminu Tukur Shines at MTN, Looks Back with Gratitude on How AUN Prepared Him for a Life of Competitiveness, Excellence

The liberal arts foundations of the American University of Nigeria education give those who receive it a great advantage in a demanding and highly competitive work environment.

At AUN, students receive an education that develops their overall critical thinking and problem-solving abilities. In today's business and work environment, only the best thrive and fortune favors the few who can think outside the box, people who are exceptionally groomed and highly motivated.

AUN Alum Adamu Aminu Tukur (class of 2016), who joined telecommunications giant MTN in 2018, lives his dream and adds value to society. Thanks to the content of the education he received from his alma mater and the power of his dreams, the Petroleum Chemistry major is making waves in his place of work.

Adamu is currently a Regional Sales Representative at MTN. His sphere covers Adamawa North (Mubi Territory), where he manages a team of 40 staff and a battery of over 1000 MTN Sim Registration Agents and Retailers. Recently he was honored as the Best Sales Representative, Northern Nigeria, for the year 2021 after his superiors reviewed his performance.

"I was so lucky to be the top achiever among staff in all KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) in Northern Nigeria. I will confess that it was not easy as I had several sleepless nights, struggles and hurdles, but there was light at the end of the tunnel,” said the proud award recipient.

Adamu Tukur, who had acted as Adamawa State MTN Team Lead (State Manager) at different times, acknowledged that his education at AUN gave him the foundation he needed to build his career.

"AUN shaped my inner strengths and illuminated my career path by preparing me to rise to any work-related challenge through a thought-process that emphasizes rigor and impact. I majored in Petroleum Chemistry and Engineering, but I have been honored as the Best Sales Representative in Northern Nigeria.

"I am sure you are wondering how possible?

"At AUN, I took entrepreneurial and business-related courses each session. I defended many presentations on these courses and passed all the courses in flying colors. This has impacted my career at MTN.

"To be candid, I doubt if it would have been easy for me at MTN if I did not graduate from AUN. The University has a unique style of imparting to its students academic excellence with a blend of innovation, entrepreneurial, social and problem-solving skills.

“You are industry-ready from the start and you are equipped with the mind-set and skill-sets to face and adapt to the challenges of change in the larger society. I am proud of being a graduate of AUN."

Alum Adamu Aminu Tukur also appreciated the practical knowledge he received during his internship with the Marketing & Communications Department at AUN. "The internship opportunity sets AUN apart from other universities. It gave me a beneficial understanding of workplace practices and the social skills to succeed after graduation. I gained a lot from my internship period.”

He expressed delight in the honor done to him and his family by MTN.

"This award means a lot to me. Let me quote the Chief Executive Officer, Sales and Distribution MTN Nigeria, Mr. Adekunle Adebiyi. who always says 'Reward for Hard Work is More Work'. This award simply means I have to work harder to maintain the status of being the Best Sales Representative for 2022. This award has paved ways for me to climb up the ladders at MTN.

Finally, the Proud AUN Alum thanked the Regional General Manager MTN North Mrs. Amina Dambatta; Senior Managers Abdulhamid Hassan and Hamza Ibrahim; Sales and Trade Development Manager, Yola Area Godwin Musa; and the Sales and Trade Development Manager FCT Area, Nonso Ojogwu.

"These personalities played a vital role in guiding and supporting me towards achieving my targets.”
