AUN Prepared Me Before I Launched Out, Former SGA President

The Former Students Government Association (SGA) President, Mr. Basil Abia, lauded AUN's American-styled education, where students have the opportunity to pursue internationally recognized liberal arts programs, develop skills, and learn how to tackle challenges. The University aims to nurture students into future leaders capable of providing solutions wherever they may find themselves.

Mr. Abia, who recently attended the AUN 15th Commencement Ceremony in Yola, shared his personal journey of growth and transformation at AUN. He highlighted that the education at AUN is not just about academics but also about personal development and service. He recalled his first-year experience, particularly in AUN 101 class, where he learned the importance of service and leadership. He also mentioned how his diplomatic skills were honed through participation in the Model UN conference in the US. He was also had the opportunity of representing the University at the student leaders' summit in South Africa. He shared, "I learned that leadership isn't about giving orders. The comprehensive knowledge I gained at AUN inspired me to run for the SGA leadership role. When the time came, I knew I had to serve in a different capacity."

He encouraged students to make the most of their time and the abundant opportunities and resources available at the University. He highlighted that AUN's liberal arts education fosters critical thinking and creativity, and those who graduate from it excel in their chosen careers. He also advised, "Students should not fear failure. Put yourself out there, be authentic, and don't hesitate to seek help." Mr. Abia served as AUN SGA President in 2015/2016.
