In a move to enhance hands-on learning and practical training, the American University of Nigeria (AUN) received a generous donation of modern medical equipment from Dr. Jimmy Reyes of Iowa State University on January 16, 2026.
The donation underscores the value of international academic partnerships in advancing AUN’s mission of delivering high-quality, practice-oriented education. The equipment, which includes sphygmomanometers, stethoscopes, and dynamometers, is intended to strengthen health sciences instruction and expand experiential learning opportunities for students in the School of Basic and Health Nursing.
Formally accepting the equipment on behalf of the School of Basic Medical and Allied Health Sciences, Associate Dean Dr. Solomon Donsanda described the donation as both timely and impactful. “This equipment will enhance hands-on learning, improve instructional delivery, and support the professional training of our students,” he said. “We sincerely appreciate Dr. Reyes’s kind humanitarian gesture.”
AUN President Prof. DeWayne Frazier expressed deep appreciation to Dr. Reyes for his continued support. “Partnerships of this nature align perfectly with AUN’s mission of providing high-quality, practice-oriented education,” Dr. Frazier noted. Speaking on his motivation for the donation, Dr. Reyes emphasized the broader impact of investing in health education. “Supporting nursing education is one of the most meaningful ways to strengthen global health systems,” he said. “I am honored to support AUN’s program with essential clinical equipment that will help students build confidence and competence in patient assessment.”
A long-time friend and collaborator of AUN, Dr. Reyes' contribution reflects a sustained commitment to capacity building in nursing and health education. The new equipment will enable richer, practical learning experiences, ensuring students graduate with the skills required in today’s healthcare sector.
This donation directly supports the strategic objectives of the School of Basic Medical and Allied Health Sciences and reinforces AUN’s commitment to forging partnerships that strengthen academic programs. The University extends its heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Jimmy Reyes for his exemplary generosity and enduring partnership.
