The American University of Nigeria's (AUN) Students' Government Association (SGA) and Honor Society leaders addressed the newly matriculated class, urging them to dream big and build purposefully.
SGA President Muhammed Bashir Zakari, a final-year Information Systems major, urged the freshmen to embrace growth beyond their comfort zones. “The university’s cultural diversity is one of the strengths of the AUN experience, and I encourage you to build meaningful relationships with colleagues from different backgrounds,” Zakari said, highlighting community as a core resource. He also reframed the inevitable challenges of university life, encouraging the students not to fear failure, which he said offers valuable lessons for personal development and self-discovery.
Honor Society President Sharon Dimas, a final-year Law major, advised students to seize opportunities and surround themselves with supportive peers. “You are encouraged to seize every opportunity before you and build strong circles with great people who will challenge, support, and inspire you throughout your journey,” Dimas said.
Their combined messages created a cohesive roadmap for the incoming class, emphasizing that the student experience is shaped as much by community and courage as it is by academics. Both student leaders encouraged the freshmen to remain focused and intentional as they begin their academic pursuits at AUN.
