At the American University of Nigeria, community service is an integral part of students' education. Through their participation in community service, AUN students have sustainably impacted the local community.
Second-year software engineering major Mujaheed Zakari Naiwa demonstrated this endearing community spirit and generosity on September 20, 2023, when he paid the term's school fees and provided school uniforms, sandals, and writing materials for four indigent children.
Mr. Mujaheed Zakari said he felt the need to reach out to the kids because he has been involved in various community service activities at AUN. He felt pity for the children who had been out of school for an extended period, emphasizing the dangers and consequences of their absence.
"Enrolling them back in school is crucial because it provides them with valuable educational and social opportunities and life chances; it is not good to see them begging on the side of the road. These measures will assist them in returning to school."
Mr. Zakari also vowed to reach out to other out-of-school children in Yola, and he encouraged other AUN students to persevere in assisting less fortunate children in the neighborhoods to realize their dreams.
The guardian of the four benefactors, Mrs. Maryam Ahmed, appreciated the generous gift and kind act. She also thanked AUN for giving students the platform to assist the local communities.
