First Day of Spring 2020 Classes: President Dekle Leads Senior Management to Inspire Students

First Day of Spring 2020 Classes: President Dekle Leads Senior Management to Inspire Students

On January 22, President Dekle led senior management staff on a class-to-class tour of the classrooms, meeting and inspiring first-year students.

The occasion was a continuation of the now widely anticipated “Day One of the Class” tradition that she introduced on her assumption of office in 2017.

Those at the pledge ceremony for new students held a day before would have heard Vice President & Dean of Students Byron Bullock’s rousing "Tuesday is coming" speech. President Dekle reminded the students that Tuesday had indeed come.

President Dekle symbolically shared apples to students on this occasion. Apples are significant because they are fruits of knowledge.

"In the United States, the students bring apples to their teachers, here at AUN we are different; the teachers bring apples to you," she told the excited students.

The students picked an apple each from either of  two baskets filled with green and red apples and then took a fun photograph with the President's team. She spoke after the distribution, stating that the event would be a memorable one in their lifetime.

The president and her team visited the Introduction to Entrepreneurship class taught by Dr. Lukman Raimi and the Freshman Composition class.

Musing about AUN’s unique teaching methods, Dr. Raimi told students that the University would develop their entrepreneurial mindset from being job seekers to job creators.
