To me, the Fusion concert will go down in history as one of the best-planned events by any Student Government Association (SGA) in AUN. It was a perfect end to the SGA week, and if anything, it was the perfect epilogue to an SGA administration that is believed to have performed exceedingly well to promote students' interest.
The outgoing SGA organized the weeklong events to engage the students one last time before handing over to their successors. It began on March 21 and ended on March 26, 2022. The events included community service, an SGA dinner, a debate, and the cherry on top was the Fusion concert. The concert featured the popular Nigerian artist LOJAY and DJ T-grabs as the main attraction. However, I believe the people who stole the show were the students who poured their hearts into the performance.
The concert was held inside the Commencement hall, which was well ventilated and spacious enough to let the students move around and dance freely. From the moment you arrived, you felt the high energy in the hall, which was contagious; loud music blared through the enormous speakers, and people around me could not stop themselves from dancing.
Amira Niyang (Captain Cruise), a CMD (Communication and Multimedia Design) sophomore, Rasine Anani, an ICP (International and Comparative politics) senior, and Jude Shu, a senior, were the hosts of the event, and they were phenomenal. They excited each performance before they came, danced on the sidelines, and constantly engaged with the crowd.
What is so unique about this concert is that it had something for everyone. There were trampolines, corndogs for the hungry, and various performances. We got dance acts from Tiktok socialite and law senior Liz Dennis; ASCA's best male dancer, Ochuko Mukorho; Vanessa Hart, a CMD junior; Kamsie Oraekie, a sophomore; and Draves (Daniel Uriri), a Software Engineering Junior. The artists that performed were:
- Jaguar (Abel Abba), an alumnus with his hit single Suffer;
- SJ Black (Simeon Stephen), a fourth-year Law student;
- ASCA's artist of the year, Caliber the Grime (Chidiebube Okey-Onwuka);
- MLT (Itekena Omuku), a CMD junior;
- Victor Alumma, a senior, and
- Kelvin Ekiyorkatimi, a CMD junior.
The event's highlight for me was the saxophone performance by David Iheonu, a junior studying engineering. His swing from one song to the other just exhibited terrific breath control. All I could think about was how AUN is grooming great talents for the real world. As a final-year student, this would remain one of my core memories regarding AUN.
