The AUN Student Choice Awards (ASCA) is the biggest and most anticipated student event. For those who do not know, ASCA is the one night of the year dedicated to recognizing the students who have stood out from the crowd for their remarkable talents. Awards such as best vocalist, best entertainer, best YouTuber, best makeup artist, and several more recognitions for outstanding creativity are handed out to students as voted by other students. Truly no better way to practice democracy!
On the eve of March 19, 2022, members of the AUN community gathered around dressed in their best outfits to attend the vivacious award show. This year's theme was 'A Journey into the Amazon,' drawing its themes from adventure, wildlife, and nature. The event was hosted by three lovely and hilarious seniors, including Business and Entrepreneurship major Etim Anyietie, Communication and Multimedia Design major Ufa Dania, and International and Comparative Politics major Nsikak Ntuen, who carried the audience along on a magical adventure with their hilarious tales and seamless chemistry. They certainly deserve their flowers with the ability to control a crowd like that.
Students marveled at the designs and took selfies on the lit-up stage upon arrival. They took their seats at designated tables and patiently waited for the show to begin. Although the event started a little later than advertised, the wit and charm of the three magnificent hosts quickly quelled the built-up tension in the Room. They told great jokes and presented each award with a unified demeanor themselves. They also coordinated the presentation of plaques and ensured a smooth and entertaining course of the program.
Having all the nominated vocalists perform an opening act on stage turned out to be a brilliant idea by the organizers. They sang beautifully together, and each showcased their talent. "It felt nice to be acknowledged for my talent. I was not expecting to win in my category because I don't often put myself out there, so the opportunity to perform was nice for me," said talented performer and Best Vocalist Nominee Aribim Bristol-Alagbariya.
This project, conceived and coordinated by the Campus Activities Board (CAB), was exceptional. Doing so allowed the nominated talents to prove why they were nominated, and to entertain a lively and excited crowd of their students. ASCA, as the first event to kick off SGA week, was indeed a brilliant choice, and it set the bar so high for what is next to come.
