Marketplace Friday: Fun and Business

Marketplace Friday: Fun and Business

On February 7, 2020, the AUN community gathered between AA and BB students' residences for the first Marketplace Friday of the semester. Marketplace Friday is a fun event that allows students to display their entrepreneurial skills beyond the classroom. It is open to all students who have interests in not only food but also in jewelry, airtime, and bicycle hire businesses.

"I think it allows students to learn a few things about customer service and accounting, for example. I believe these skills are essential for anyone willing to go into business," said Auwal Muhammad, a third-year major in the Natural & Environmental Science program.

Many aspiring entrepreneurs set up and waited for their customers. Among the new entrepreneurs was Habiba Ibrahim, a second-year Telecoms major, whose doughnut stand attracted many students. Ms. Ibrahim did not share her recipe but explained that she added a little chocolate inside the snack. "People have said it is a bit pricey, but I believe the taste compensates for the price," she said.

Besides the food at each stall, were board games, video games, and a ping-pong table.
