To all Newly Accepted Students:
I am so excited at your acceptance into our learning community and I welcome you and your parents/guardians to Africa’s only Development University, the American University of Nigeria (AUN).
An AUN education prepares students to ask questions, to think for themselves, and to succeed; it prepares tomorrow’s leaders, dedicated to the public good and to finding solutions to the development challenges facing Nigeria, Africa and the world. I assure you of our commitment to providing a superb, safe and secure higher education that will help you launch a great career. Know that it’s going to be hard work but also fun studying at AUN, and it is going to change your life!
As you prepare to leave home to the AUN campus, your new home, we want you to know that you are in the class of 2027 for students in arts & sciences, business & entrepreneurship, and IT & computing. For law and engineering students, you are in the class of 2028. What this means for you is that each of you would have been completely transformed and ready for your graduation in these years.
For many of you who are interested in pursuing a medical career, AUN is launching new programs in the basic medical sciences such as public health, and nursing. These programs, in addition to our current biomedical science concentration, provide additional medical career options for students. Upon completion, students can apply to our partner institution, St. George’s University, Grenada, West Indies, (SGU), to continue their study for the award of Doctor of Medicine degree. The affiliation with SGU has a scholarship component for eligible students. We are also starting a new engineering program, Civil Engineering, for many of you who would like to take a career in the construction industry.
We are excited that our engineering students will be moving into our newly commissioned school of engineering complex. The new school of law building is also scheduled for commissioning in the first week of classes. The facilities in these buildings are state-of-the-art and will provide hands-on learning for you to hone your skills and competences.
At AUN, we are very mindful of the importance of having a great start at the beginning and orientation program is that important first step for a great start. Please, do not miss the orientation that begins next week--Tuesday, August 22, 2023. I will personally be welcoming you and your parents/guardians as we meet and greet our newest classes.
I am very much aware that many of you and your parents are concerned about security at AUN and in Yola. I am an American and since my arrival this last May, I have found Yola to be surprisingly safe. The AUN security personnel are also very professional and they have taken necessary procedures to ensure the campus is safe and secure for everyone. So, this is our commitment, you are and will be safe studying at AUN. You will hear more of our security procedures during the Orientation. Please, plan to attend the orientation sessions.
For information regarding the Orientation, please feel free to contact our Events Office. You can reach us via email at
I look forward to welcoming you to our beautiful campus.
